FinTeck Asia Survey vote on Nxt Blockchain
« on: July 30, 2015, 07:32:24 am »

Yesterday has been Demo Day for FinTech Startups in Singapore.

The biggest event in Asia of the kind!

DeBuNe, through OTDocs, has sponsored a survey with a vote on the Nxt blockchain.

As it would have been impossible to ask all the participant to create an Nxt account, transfer them some Nxt, activate their account, and ask them to cast a vote with the proper voting system, we created a wrapper with a PHP application, and used a single account that sent the votes as message to itself, and another app that counted the votes.

Users accessed the app via mobile, scanning QR code:

or simply going to: http://demoday.live.otdocs.com

NOTE: Voting now is not working, as the account has balance zero. If you want to try to vote you need to feed the account NXT-MVMM-6BV5-W8EB-DY2LX at least 1NXT

The results of the votes are visible here: http://demoday.live.otdocs.com/#/results

and the last transactions (so people could see the votes into the blockchain as they did happen) are visible here:
http://demoday.live.otdocs.com/#/transactions

What the advantage of such voting process? How could I know that my voice was counted and not changed? How could I know that owner of the service did not change results of the voting? I do not see any advantage for using blockchain here.

Just a way to justify "Blockchain" use. The advantage is making people feel they "used" the blockchain.

A lot of blockchain virginities lost in one shot, so maybe now they are less afraid.

It's marketing and branding of a technology. Nothing sexy technically. They would not understand that.

Feed 1NXT in the account and go vote before someone else does :)

That's why I got the error, that the vote was closed already. A bit confusing, but it worked.

Fun fact. The guy in the front is Sajid Javid Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills from the UK.

Demo day was amazing and blockchain was voted the number one area that's next for FinTech ;)

Here's Roberto (wearing an NXT t-shirt) giving one of his 5 longer pitches on Open Trade docs yesterday. This was after he did a short pitch in front of 550+ people, looks like we got their attention! I apologize for my poor photographic skills.

great job DeBuNe!! technically the vote trough a PHP script is not a good solution.. but if you look at the users of it its the best solution! of course its not really secure but the users are always able to verify their votes on the blockchain if there are not 100s of votes per minute... we need solutions like this to promote NXT

It really wasn't meant to demonstrate a secure method, was more an aim to take people that never used blockchain for a micro ride into this word, to trigger curiosity, desire to learn more, and maybe kill the "fear" that stop many from using crypto platforms.

But yes, indeed it is not the way it should be done if that was the vote for the political election of a presidential candidate (even tho the electronic vote done in the USA in the past was actually way worse lol)

You can see a list of transactions with votes. How can a user verify his vote with this solution?

Very user friendly indeed. Good luck dealing with time zones, multiple votes in the same time period and writing down your vote time on the sheet of paper.

You know, it was just a small proof of concept to show people who don't know anything about blockchain (Bitcoin == blockchain in their mind, and they hate Bitcoin) it can be used for other use things too. The goal was not to replicate a fool-proof, easy to use voting system that you would use for elections or whatever. The goal was to show another use case of blockchain. We reached that goal, so I would call this a success. The points you mention, they can be tackled if needed.

I answered xchrix who told that this solution allows to verify own votes. This is not true.
I understand perfectly what is the goal of this solution but xchrix is wrong.
