Testnet log messages

2017-05-15 17:41:25 FINE: Peer{state=CONNECTED, announcedAddress='bug.airdns.org', services=3, host='46.165.208.107', version='1.11.5'} advertised chain with better difficulty, but the last common block is at height 1221246

I keep seeing this log message in my testnet instance, are these nodes on a fork?

My node 107.170.3.62 is on the same fork as 174.140.168.136 and bug.airdns.org
Try popping off blocks back to height 1221246 and let your node re-download the blockchain.

This morning I realized that my node is on a fork.
I popped off blocks up to 1221246 and all is well now.

Yesterday I deleted the blockchain and did a full resync.   Once it was complete it ended up in the same state as before with the same log messages indicating I'm on a forked chain with lower difficulty.  Any ideas why my node ended up on the wrong chain even after a full delete/resync?

I shut down the node, added nxt.pullThreshold=1000, restarted and popped off blocks to 122145, then rescanned and was able to resync with the proper higher-difficulty chain. My assumption is that my node received 720+ (800) blocks from another testnet node that was on a fork, leaving it stuck on a fork past the rollback threshold.  Is that possible?  If so, is the only way to resolve to specify nodes (explicitly or via hallmarking) or increasing the rollback threshold during initial sync?

You can increase the setting nxt.numberOfForkConfirmations or for testnet nxt.testnetNumberOfForkConfirmations to force your node to check with more peers for a better fork after every 719 blocks, to 5 peers for example. The default for testnet is 1, which makes it more likely to get stuck on a fork that only a few peers are on.
