Please educate me. Are the snapshots weighted in any way or is it just linear record?

i.e:

from July 14th to October 12th snapshots will be taken on an hourly basis.
So if I keep for example 100.000NXT on my account 90% of the time and sell all 100.000NXT sometime in the end of September, I would receive Ardor equivalent of 90.000NXT right? This will surely trigger some speculation wether the NXT price would fall around Oct 12th I assume.

IT is necessary to inform the NXT holders in time that they will receive free Childchain transactional tokens ("FNX") if they hold their NXT till next year.

Or they hope with the dump that the price of NXT will become and stay low again as before the news of Ardor, but that is one thing we should try to avoid.

If price falls dramatically around Oct 12th, somebody will buy those cheap coins and later will use them to buy more ARDR at the asset exchange. It's hard to prognosticate what the most profitable strategy will be. A decent one is to acquire a stake before july and stay put through the end of snapshotting.

But ARDR price is not connected to NXT after snapshot period. So if ARDR rises and NXT falls down...

Or is it connected?

I believe the price of NXT will fall towards the end of the snapshot period. However this means that the price of ARDR tokens will likely rise measured in NXT.
I'm a lously speculator, and always loose money when I try to outsmart the market, so I'm just gonna hodl.

It's linear, so your example is correct.

Everything is connected in crypto, especially when a coin is spawned from another coin, it will stay connected to it for some time. At the beginning they will have a close correlation, later the connection may become less obvious. This is new territory, buying before july and waiting for the dust to clear is a reasonably safe, risk averse path.

Umm. the more I think of it I should get some extra NXT, sell it during snapshots and keep my original stake. Just thinking aloud.

Or sell all and hope NXT price is very low and buy it back at a good price.

As Wolffang says, there are actually two distributions, one to the Ardor staking coin and one to the as-yet-unnamed transaction coin. The second distribution will be based on a single big-bang snapshot taken at the moment 2.0 is launched. Nobody knows which of the new coins will be worth more, so it could be worth holding onto your NXT at least until the launch.

If price falls dramatically around Oct 12th,
Logically, any fall in price should be gradual. In effect, NXT now is at its most valuable. Each Ardor snapshot will leach some of the NXT value away and transfer it, first to the asset, and then later to the new block-chain. So the value of NXT should decrease in a smooth, linear fashion between Jul 14th and Oct 12th.

If there's a sudden drop it should happen later, at the final snapshot when Nxt 2.0 is launched. If everyone switches to the new chain, then NXT could become worthless that day.

Just one question, what's the distribution plan for first child chain of Ardor? If there is a plan.

Distribution is based on NXT balance at mainnet launch in Q3 2017. The ratio is 1:0.5.

Now I knew why stocks all have like 100+ billions market value, because they all hold (for some reason). ;)

Two more questions:

1:How many child chain Core dev estimated Ardor can support?
2:How much is the cost to create a new child chain?

When Ardor launches, will NXT become much less useful, and so worth less, or more useful?

It will stay very useful.

Nxt 1.0 with NXT as token will still be available and supported for atleast 1 year after Ardor launches.
