joefox

Nxt account dedicated to the bounty fund to be created later.

2. Submission date

3. A short description of the project with your goals very clearly specified(three sentences max.)
We aim to create a dedicated bounty fund for the purpose of rewarding Nxt community members who present and record Nxt-related information at live events.

The program sets up 21 months worth of Nxt rewards (in seven 3-month periods), to be given out based on submitted video presentations.

The goal of the fund is to foster the creation and development of confident, accurate & outspoken Nxt evangelists whose recorded content will generate a library of presentations related to Nxt.

3b. Long description

See the full draft of the fund announcement, terms and criteria at the bottom of this proposal.

4. Specify the target audience

Bounty funds are dedicated to bringing potential Nxt speakers and evangelists out of the woodwork by encouraging them to speak out and record their work.  The resulting video content will then be available to the Internet community at large.

5. Budget

600,000 Nxt are requested to fund the complete 21-month program.  The breakdown of timing and amounts is outlined in the terms and criteria document at the bottom of this proposal.

6. Specify deadlines

Bounties are set aside for three-month periods beginning on May 1, 2014:
  • May 1, 2014 - July 31, 2104: 50,000NXT
  • August 1, 2014 - October 31, 2014: 100,000 NXT
  • November 1, 2014 - January 31, 2015: 150,000 NXT

  • November 1, 2014 - January 31, 2016: 50,000 NXT

7. Metrics need to be specified

Entries will be recorded in a master thread on Nxtforum.org.  Each video, in turn, will independently capture view metrics, likes, comments, etc.

NXT SPEAKER BOUNTIES
DRAFT ANNOUNCEMENT -- NOT OFFICIAL UNTIL PROPOSAL IS APPROVED

The Nxt Marketing Committee would like to announce the creation of Speakers' Bounties, intended to foster the creation and development of confident, accurate & outspoken Nxt evangelists.

Current Period:  May 1 - July 31, 2014
Bounty Available:  50,000 Nxt

Qualification Criteria

In order to qualify for a bounty, speakers (or teams of speakers) must make a live presentation, in front of a local audience, that educates the audience on Nxt's features, benefits, technologies, or applications. Online-only presentations, such as Google Hangouts or videoconferences, are not eligible.  The presentation must be recorded on video, and made available on the Internet for public use, under any form of Creative Commons license.

In order to be considered, links to videos must be posted in a dedicated thread [to be created] on nxtforum.org. The post must also include information on:
  • the name of the presenter
  • the topic and date of the presentation
  • contact information for the presenter (or team of presenters) responsible for the content
  • a Nxt account number to receive donations.... or a bounty, if awarded
  • the specific Creative Commons license under which the work may be re-used (if the video platform does not support this feature natively)

Bounty Amounts and Program Dates

The program will begin for events recorded on or after May 1, 2014, with bounty amounts to be available as follows:
  • May 1, 2014 - July 31, 2104: 50,000NXT
  • August 1, 2014 - October 31, 2014: 100,000 NXT
  • November 1, 2014 - January 31, 2015: 150,000 NXT
  • February 1, 2015 - April 30, 2015: 125,000 NXT
  • May 1, 2015 - July 31, 2015: 75,000 NXT
  • August 1, 2015 - October 31, 2015: 50,000 NXT
  • November 1, 2014 - January 31, 2016: 50,000 NXT

The bounty for each period will be awarded within two weeks of the end of that period.  Bounties may be divided among multiple submissions, and no single submission can receive more than 50% of the total bounty available for any period.  Not all submitted videos are entitled to a bounty.

Evaluation Criteria
Submitted videos will be assessed based on:
  • video and audio quality
  • the factual accuracy of the information presented
  • the professionalism, polish, energy and charisma demonstrated by the speaker or speakers (see below for further detail)
  • the quality of any post-production, including editing, titles, added graphics, and other elements

Scores for professionalism, polish, energy and charisma are all aided by the following 7 factors:

1.  A great opening.  The first and last 90 seconds of a speech are the ones people remember (so long-winded introductions, thanks, unrelated jokes, etc are note beneficial)

2.  A benefit to the audience.  The speech must answer the question audience members will ask themselves: "what is in this for me?"

3.  Engage visually.  I've done a lot of public speaker training and coaching, and there is no doubt in my mind that 80% of what you "say" in your speech comes from what you don't literally say.  Body language, energy, physical engagement and appropriate visual aids all have significant impact.

4. Engage emotionally. There is a lot of research that suggests that emotional engagement generates strong responses.  This is how "advertising" works.  When it's done poorly it appears obvious and hyperbolic; but when a speech is wrapped into a simple narrative structure, audiences willingly suspend disbelief and engage on an emotional level.

5.  Strong closing.  This must be memorable and must reiterate the call to action.  What do you want your audience to remember?  What do you want them to *do* in response to your speech?

6.  Confidence, polish and professionalism speak volumes.  Speeches should be prepared, rehearsed, re-rehearsed, and polished.  Only speakers with many, many years of experience can "improvise" a quality presentation of any kind.

7. Flow and structure.  The speech has to follow a logical structure that is connected, somehow, and moves from one point to the next.  It needs to have a good opening and closing (see point one and point five), paired with a logical presentation of points and a clear call to action (point two).

Bounty Decision Process
At the end of each bounty reward period, the Marketing Committee will compile a list of eligible videos, and the committee members will "score" each submission based on the evaluation criteria.  When compiled, final scores will be used to determine distribution of bounty funds.

The same scoring system will be used by all assessors.  In cases where presentations are delivered in other languages, appropriate assessors will be located from the pool of Nxt translators working on other materials.

Assessors will score presentations based on the following criteria:
  • 20 points:  Communication (volume, mannerisms, clarity)
  • 20 points:  Organization (introduction, flow, conclusion)
  • 30 points:  Knowledge (covers the topic accurately; answers questions correctly [if applicable])
  • 10 points:  Visual aids (easy to read slides, good use of graphics; slides not too wordy; good demonstrations)
  • 20 points:  Production Quality (video & audio quality, camera work; editing, titles, added graphics)

Other notes
  • Bounties are rewarded for the quality and content of the presentation only.  Speakers who would like to travel to conferences in order to speak at an event may apply to the Marketing Committee separately to have travel/attendance costs covered or subsidized.
  • As a result of posting Nxt account numbers associated with a submission, creators may receive donations from the Nxt community.  The number and size of these donations will not play a role in the evaluation of the submission by the committee
  • The language of the presentation is not restricted to English.

This plan is sound, and it's an important step to getting some people to spread the word.

I hope people will step up to claim these bounties!
