it would be good pratice to post here before any pool restart that is on your planning.
Cheers

im surprise I got my FIRST bitcoinpaul for that  :D. The one that did should be ashame  ???. If restart is not plan, it normal that you cannot advise your fellow, but if it is plan for whatever reason, it should be normal to advise your pool miner. It would simply be a good business pratice. My comment was only meant to be construtive, as my avatar tell :)

What is a bitcoinpaul and how doest it work?

Please tell me or direct me?

Thanks.

it when you do karma -1 to someone, I know it is not you then... lol on the bottom of his name, you have presently +9 applaud.

I clinked applaud and bitcoinpaul words underneath the Karma: +0/-0.
It just came back to this page with no indication of what or why, that anything happened.
I don't know whose I clicked though I just clicked trying to find out what they are, hoping I would get some info.

As for Karma, no offence intended it is all as bad as a Facebook thumbs up.

Sorry for being negative but I feel like this.

Ha, and the front page is still there but no communication telling people what is going on or when we can expect to be paid for the BTCD that was mined.

Yes, you would do best by staying to automated service.
Exactly.  In the future, coins like BTCD will be dumped immediately once they are listed on exchanges despite the fact that it will mean that the miners will get literally exponentially less profit from the mining.   The coins will just be included in the automated payout process and dumped like the regular coins and paid out regularily.  Coins will no longer ever be available to be paid out directly to miners as anything other than NXT, either.  This isn't multipool.us.  Unfortunately this would have meant that all of the BTCD that the pool earned completely would have earned a total of slightly over 1 BTC (as it would have been dumped the first day that it hit bittrex and was selling for 25,000 satoshis) but quite frankly waiting for the coins value to go up has not been worth the shitstorm that it seems to have caused.

The pool is currently under such a DDOS attack that cloudflare has been overwhelmed.  I am upgrading the cloudflare plan right now and trying one other thing to see if I can try and avoid some of the attack but that's why the HTTP interface is currently unavailable.  The stratum's will be taken offline for a few minutes while I attempt to do this mitigation starting immediately.

Thanks for the update, pf! I totally understand why you're changing the payout scheme and agree with why you're changing it.  The bad eggs ruin it for everybody else - it's just kinda how it is. :/

I could not possibly miss something I didn't have anyway but while you have been holding those coins, I have not been feeling good about it, so why have you been forcing me to trust you when I have no good reason to do so?

Why are you trying to create trust artificially?

The coins will just be included in the automated payout process and dumped like the regular coins and paid out regularily.  Coins will no longer ever be available to be paid out directly to miners as anything other than NXT, either.

Good because as soon as I realized you where holding the coins that I did mine on the hashrate.org pool I moved my miners to mine them directly for my self as I do not like being forced to trust others under any circumstances.

This isn't multipool.us.

No but lets just imagine for a second that it was at the time, I would have had some power so I would have made sure people where paid or at the very least given an option. I would at the very least be asking them to trust me not forcing them to do so.

In the same way, people would have not even known that, so wouldn't even be thinking about it, let alone bothered it happened, stop exaggerating all the time. This is not even a shower of shit, let alone a storm, unless you are talking about yourself then I might agree about the shower. We haven't been waiting for the coins to go up in value, you have, and we haven't been paid but you have, as well as we are still waiting to be paid but you are not. That is what makes me really suspicious.  Really they are worth a lot more now and seeing that you have not paid them out, you should be paying them out at the present value not what they where worth in the past. Plus we only have your word on the number that was mined and increasingly your word is losing value because of all this shit you keep throwing up.

On this I might believe you because it did take a while to load the front page.

I was going to suggest this.  I'm glad you came to your own conclusion that opting out is the best course of action for yourself.  I think it's best for the other miners as well.

pf – please get a real sysadmin immediately to control the pool and it’s day to day operations. It is obvious that you are good at creating the software and innovating but that you are not good running the services that the NXT community needs.

Please stop trying to pretend that when you are doing the disappearing act that you do that everything is ok when you get back. It is not - peoples’ money is as at stake and you seem to either not get or downplay this point. Please stop this immediately – when you go missing you are missed and people are concerned both about you and their money.

I have a good friend that is bipolar and a family member that is schizophrenic. I am not saying that you have problems in this area but your disappearing acts kind of fit the description – constantly vanishing and then trying to downplay the reason and pretending that it is no big deal. But if you have issues in this area, please take your meds and your doctor’s advice and go with the flow – it’s the best any of us can do in this life. Personally I have a problem that was as one time described as a form of Asbergers. Withdrawing into myself is not something I am allowed to do anymore even though that is where I am most comfortable.

One of the hats I have worn for most of the last 35 years is that of sysadmin. It is not a hat that most can wear and it takes a toll. I do not think this is something that you are good at. Please get a professional sysadmin – many are willing to work for free. Just remember that the NXT reputation is at stake and every time you blow it, it reflects on all of us.

For what it’s worth – I sold all of my shares more than a week ago and I am now just a minor miner now instead of a fractional owner. My current crypto rule is flake out more than once and I sell. I suspect that others may not be as liberal.

In amazing news, I will be paying out the dividends shortly tonight.  Last week I had used some of the community owned hardware to invest in some hosted X11/Scrypt-N FPGA (180 MH of X11 / 30 MH f Scrypt-N, autoswitching to the most profitable)  hardware (that unfortunately aren't able to be pointed at our pool as the FPGA manufacturer controls the hardware).  I had spent just shy of 2.25 BTC on the hardware.

The first week's returns on just this hardware alone is 0.47 BTC (or ~$250, meaning potentially the equipment could ROI in less than 5 weeks!).  The leased stuff was pointed at VTC this week, mining to this wallet address: Vgze8hFv1QkKGuXHGDtx9YKBxGwrTJYtqa
It earned 2154.5842 vertcoins.  If Scrypt-N ever becomes less profitable than X11, then it will automatically switch over to X11 and back again. I am considering buying additional Scrypt-N FPGAs.

I will be sending out the dividends shortly. The total amount to go out will be 19,429.60 NXT (so likely 19,208.60) as there will be TXN fee associated.

Let me go into a few details about the pool.
The pool is currently hosted at Digital Ocean, which has been adequete in terms of resources, because this is the cheapest possible option to host it.  If you're offering better hosting for cheaper or free, I am definitely interested.  Digital Ocean has occasionally restarted the VM with no warning - it's because Digital Ocean is intended moreso for developers, they do not have any kind of service agreements but that's because they're the cheapest option out there that runs entirely on SSD disk.

The pool is under almost continual DDOS attack.  I am paying for a Cloudflare.com professional account every month, and the DNS entries for the pool point directly to cloudflare.
To manage the iptables on the server I am leveraging dome9.  This means that the only way to log into the pool's servers is to first log into dome9 with two factor authentication, then request access to a particular IP for a particular amount of time, after which you are able to log in.  The iptables are set to only accept HTTP connections from Cloudflare.  The only ports that are even opened up to the internet are the stratum ports, which obviously have to be.

Unfortunately, a $20 a month cloudflare account is not the same as a $1500 DDOS mitigation package.  Cloudflare only scales up so far, and occasionally will nullroute the traffic if they are unable to handle the size of the DDOS burst ongoing at that point.  Dome9 is logging that it is succesfully dropping thousands of connections every second with the iptables rules (lots of SYN floods, various attacks trying to hit the DNS ports, etc).  Prior to leveraging dome9 I was seeing tens of thousand attempts to brute the root passwords every day (and besides, leaving SSH open is something nobody should do).   We still routinely have malicious workers trying to crash the stratum servers in new and creative ways that occasionally are effective.

Even leaving HTTP open to the internet resulted in us being DDOS'ed, so now the only way to connect via HTTP is through cloudflare. Again, most large websites have a similar policy to prevent DDOS attacks.

If you're offering to spring for a better host that has SLAs, I'd be all for it (heck, Firehost would be superb - they have one of the top DDOS mitigation packages out of every hosting company on the internet).  Unfortunately, at the end of the day, somebody has to pay for that.  (Firehost packages start around $800 a month for a package that would have 1/16 the resources that our current digital ocean package has.  (16 vCPU's, 8 GB RAM, 6 TB traffic)).

In regards to the rest of your comments: I wrote off an SUV and nearly died rolling down a mountainside in a part of British Columbia that has no cell coverage, as I previously posted.  I lost both my usual laptop and iphone in the accident.  I did my best when I was back to civilization to not downplay that regard but to quickly get the pool paying out and dividends issued.

You're doing great work under difficult circumstances, pf.  I, for one, appreciate that work and will continue to support your efforts. :)

As for hosting, have you looked at AWS?  I use them for my nodes.  No problems with reboots there. ;)  I've seen that on my DO node - it's annoying.

I have looked at AWS, unfortunately the equivalent server costs several times more than.
Currently we have 16 vCPU, 8 GB of RAM, 100 GB of SSD disk and 6 TB a month of network traffic
I forget which AWS instance that would be the equivalent to, but once you factor in the disk costs and that kind of CPU density the cost are way higher.

DrearyUrbanite, I have opensourced the vast majority of the pool over on bitcointalk, so why don't you start up another NXT pool if you could do such a better job of it.  I would welcome another pool being around!

Lets get direct here, are you implying that I am a bad egg for asking for that which I should have had like 6.7 weeks ago???
Well, dolux, why don't you just send me back 25% of the NXT that I sent you and we can call it square? That way you would have gotten the same amount of NXT you would have received 6-7 weeks ago, and everything will be A-OK according to you?
