Contests
March 12, 2016, 05:46:23 pm

I have submitted a presentation of AssetGraphs-v2 to this contest:

p2pfoundation.net - visualization and data contest on commons collaborative economies
NXT is not yet in that P2P database, but after spending some time with the database (a handful of other currencies are, see this DB slice), I am sure NXT does belong in there. For its technology, and even more - for its vibrant p2p collaborating community. I have started this initiative "p2pfoundation.net - description text of NXT needed", which not only as a side effect can give interesting exposure to NXT. EvildDave is working on it, it is looking great. I had already sent an email to introduce us: "consider NXT". The many aspects of this kept me busy quite a bit this week, three of us "p2p collaborated" on it, mainly in the supporters thread (Is it possible to move posts #4-#14 from there to here?). It is actually very interesting, to look onto crypto currencies from a postcapitalistic viewpoint. Watch Bauwens' video!

Today I have submitted a ZIP file to Jorge L Salcedo, with explanations what assetgraphs is doing, how it is built, and where it can go from here. Including 8 images, and linking to 1 screencast animation - and to the live example apps, of course.

Cross your fingers  ;)

Hi! Sorry to announce you aren't among the winners ... but nevertheless, when I asked to the guy which was preparing the presentation, I was surprissed when I saw your "supporters thread" opened in a tab of his browser :P

I asked him if you were among the winners, but no luck, anyways, he said that your visualization is very interesting and will contact you.

The only problem I see for why you didn't won, is that the winners were more centered in represent all the information in the database of p2pvalue, but your product was only centered in nxt. "for the rest, you visualization looks cooler  ;)"
He only announced 3 winers instead of 5, he said that they only choose 3 because the others didn't adjusted exactly to the terms of the contest "as I just said"

It's a pitty, but at least, we now have nxt in p2pvalue database.

 :'(

So this is ... how a huge amount of work ... can go up in flames so quickly

:-(

Fortunately today I am in waterproofed happiness because I had success with this beautiful avalanche of good people
showing their good spirit
- to support one of us.  Giving feels great, collectively giving feels superb! Let's recode money!

And somehow that move might have perhaps been inspired by me watching
Michel Bauwens (p2pfoundation) excellent talk, which I might not have noticed
without this contest.

So somehow all this work was perhaps not a total waste of my precious time?
Yes, that is violently persuading myself to believe in positive thinking *sigh*

Anyways ... read the contest results --> then continue below ...

Subject: Data contest visualization result. Procomuns.net

Dear participants to the procomuns.net data visualization contest.

First we are really grateful of your participation in the visualization data-contest about procomuns and the time and effort that you invest on develop your visualizations. Based on the proposal received and taking into account the criteria that we formulate , the members of the jury finally decide to award the following proposals. We contact soon directly each of them.
1.       First prize Xavi Gimenez http://www.xavigimenez.net/projects/procomuns-2016/index.html

2.       Second prize Ishan Shapiro http://www.xavigimenez.net/projects/procomuns-2016/index.html
          https://kumu.io/poietic/p2p-value#p2p-value-ecosystem-full

3.       Third prize Vidya Dudipala https://goo.gl/PypezC

Thanks again for all the participants.

Jorge Luis Salcedo Maldonado

First and second prize going to the same project. How boring is that.  Corrected, it was only an error in the email that I had gotten.

The winning projects are cool ways to present a DB, indeed.

So ... zero, zilch, nada, nothing ... for me.

Anyone who is reading this, if you can, please support me and my work, I would like to continue to be able to.

Every bit (or quant) counts: NXT-CMKU-ZQYK-V6CD-9UHF4 - or to choose any other way, see my "Giveback License v05"

And when you have done that, inspire others to do so too. This signature campain is an example.

Thanks ;-)

Sorry you didn't win :/

Just listened to a part of it. Not sure I agree with his reasoning.

He gives an example why "we need instruments to make sure distribution is fair" with real estate. "First you have artistic people moving in a trashed down neighborhood, they give new life to it. Then real estate investor hear about it and start investing in it bidding up prices to such level that the artistic people, that created the value, need to move out."

I don't think his reasoning is correct. If the artistic people invested their hard earned money into the real estate they would have gained a lot more then the investors coming afterwards. Often the artistic people have to move out because they invested much less then the investors coming afterwards. They were interested to go there because they had to pay little or no rent, but not interested to invest, and first save money to do so.

Contest #1 - wasted time log  ;)

Hey, this looks like a contest just designed for you, I was digging around the P2P foundation and I found this :

https://blog.p2pfoundation.net/visualization-and-data-contest-on-commons-collaborative-economies/2016/03/07

When I see the criteria of evaluation, I tend to believe that you may have already win :

Criteria of Evaluation
1. New explanations (relations) that supply the visualization‐40%
2. The use of P2Pvalue databases and other sources. ‐20%
3. The replicability of the visualization. ‐20%
4. The likely interactivity with the data‐20%

Registration is until March 12th so you are still on time.

Perhaps asset ownership is not for them the prior interest (although i think it is anyway, since asset can be almost anything) : they are looking into developping common economy, I know they'd love to have some common supply chain system where I see NXT could fit (and that's what I'm looking on). I'm sure your graphs could be applied to other blockchain data, that would give you a 100% scrore. But this is for the future, for now, just the work you have already done should get a 80 or 90% high score.

Nxt should be more marketed in this area, the submission to a contest is a natural start de develop relationships.

I hope you can take the time to try.. ::)

Hey!

p2pfoundation.net

Wow, very cool, indeed. Looking into it.

Thanks a lot! Nice to think of me when reading that!

*sigh*:

You have to use one of the databases supplied by the P2Pvalue project .
but
Quote
You can cross these databases with other data sources.

So if we find/create/invent/fabricate any overlap between NXT and any of their databases, that might do the trick?

EDIT ... ah I see. NXT could be ADDED to their database, actually.
Here is my first take on that: p2pfoundation.net - description text of NXT needed

Feel free to keep on working with that now ...

Wrote an email to 3 of them:

https://nxtforum.org/index.php?topic=10950.msg212139#msg212139

--> EDIT: Superseeded by version v2 now.

If anyone has ... like 10 minutes ... please download this, and have a quick look.

  (TEMPORARY ARCHIVE)

I have a few hours left before the deadline, so if your feedback is quick enough, it might still be able to help me.

Thanks!
Much appreciated :-)

P.S.: Please PM me when you have downloaded it. So that I can keep you updated with newer versions. This is not final/publication ready yet. That I put it here is only my hope to get some feedback quickly. Thanks!

I see it fine, well explained and cool examples, good luck!  ;)

As always tell you, when you have live networks ready, let me know!

Just took a look at your presentation, good stuff, altsheets.
I've PM'ed you a few text edits, but it's not very much. Good luck !

Woohoo, thanks a bunch.

Much appreciated!

It is often good to finish something important
- but then first sleep over it, before submitting.

Will be looking into it now. Cool. Thx!!!

As always tell you, when you have live networks ready, let me know!

I will. See here for the obvious obstacle. But it is just a challenge, not a problem *g*

...

Until then, I can create a manual update of the network file for you, no problem.

Tell me when is a good moment. Should probably be shortly before it is
launched somewhere (i.e. put on your/their www site), so that the launch
and the last snapshot timestamp are still reasonably close to each other.

I noticed again, yesterday: Working on this thing gives me happiness.
So ... reconsidering ... what is the best route to commercialisation?

Anyone with any ideas, please discuss over there.

 ;)

Wow, really cool: A NXT notary service. So ... even if I'll soon delete that beta version file ...
those of you who've downloaded it, can prove & verify its existence, and origin ...

Who knows ... one day the   assetgraphs_p2pfoundation_submission_beta-version-v02.zip
might become a collectors' item, limited edition. So better ... Get your copy now *g*

Anyways ... kudos for that service, websioux. So cool & useful [applause].

Re: Contests
March 14, 2016, 08:00:04 pm

Marc! Welcome!

... inspired by me watching Michel Bauwens (p2pfoundation) excellent talk ...

Just listened to a part of it. Not sure I agree with his reasoning.

Yes, and that is by far not the only provocative thought. Quite cool move,
to invite a postcapitalist as a keynote speaker to a blockchain conference.

If the artistic people invested their hard earned money
into the real estate they would have gained a lot more
then the investors coming afterwards.

Yesbutno. I definitely understand what you mean, and yes there are "artistic people" who are also "investors", but perhaps those are not the kind that M.Bauwens means?  Personally, I have met tons of "artistic people" - and you might not know one essential aspect of their lives, and that weakens your (otherwise definitely correct) argument ... and that is that many many of "artistic people" are hardly surviving, they are happier than the average - and poorer. Their (self chosen!) lifestyle is not profitable, they somehow always get by - but often "at the end of the money there is still a lot of month left".
You are using a verb "invest" - which is a term that -yes- it is used very often, especially in the cryptoscene - but mostly only by those people who have excess funds they can afford to loose. The vast majority of humanity is not in that situation. And tomorrow even less than yesterday, by simple trend continuation. Until perhaps we start recoding money as such.

But THANKS! for sharing your thoughts about this. Happy to go deeper when
I find the time. However, it IMHO belongs somewhere else. Shall we open a thread?

... Here it is: https://nxtforum.org/index.php?topic=10995.0

altsheets: your efforts aren't wasted, mate.
You've created some very good stuff, and I'm becoming a fan....

Even if the p2pfoundation have chosen other projects....still more opportunities around.

Thought about giving Wanxiang Labs a try ?
http://blockchainlabs.org/blockgrant-x-en/
They have funded innovative stuff before, and you've already got everything you'll need to submit. ;D

Re: Contests
March 14, 2016, 08:37:18 pm

we now have nxt in p2pvalue database.
Yes. Perhaps. Haven't heard anything about the outcome yet.

If only I had already earned more NXT yet - then I could also benefit from that.

But yes, this is another part of the

Contest #1 - wasted time log part 2   :)  ;)  :D  ;D  :)  hahaha

NXT into p2pfoundation database

--> I suggested that NXT gets into p2pfoundation database, because and not only because of that contest.
--> whole new thread: "p2pfoundation.net - description text of NXT needed"
--> I wrote an email to three p2pfoundation people.
--> which "EvilDave" noticed.
--> and he started working on the NXT database entry for p2pvalue, and
--> we exchanged PMs and emails. Great, he does very precise work, I like that.

Ah ... here you are, EvilDave, right now, funny. If the (nice-type-of-)weirdos are right, then synchronicities can mean that we are in flow with the grand scheme of things *g*

altsheets: your efforts aren't wasted, mate.
You've created some very good stuff, and I'm becoming a fan....

Yippieh. Thanks a lot. Much appreciated, really.

Even if the p2pfoundation have chosen other projects....still more opportunities around.
Yes I know. But when please is time for moaning if not after a missed opportunity.  :)
