Dividends
« on: May 13, 2014, 02:31:44 pm »

Hey all - been awhile since I've been around.

Was wondering how investors can expect dividends to be calculated properly on these assets? Will these companies be releasing financial statements? How can you know the dividend you receive is an equitable portion of the company's profits without periodic financial statements?

You can't.

That's the obvious answer. A better question then is what is being done to protect investors?

As with all investments - 'Caveat Emptor' - if the market is too risky don't invest or invest through something which limits your risk.

Correct but this is more band-aid than a solution. Markets fail without verifiable information from companies and liquidity from smart investors. It's a classic economics/market theory problem that the crytpocommunity seems to casually ignore every time it's brought up. Although the asset exchange is great conceptually, these "IPOS" smell of Dotcom bust, and all it takes is one or two big scams (which wouldn't be hard to cook up, btw) for investors to lose all confidence in this little experiment, unless we address it head on and not obliquely.

I think there is a business for 3d party services that rate and verify the companies, I expect we will see many such services

To be very honest: treat IPOs with extreme care.
I've said this again and again: the AE is not just for IPOs. There are many other uses that it has, but the name AE makes people think that is the only thing that it is.

IPOs are the most risky use of the AE, as most of them have risks and legal uncertainties attached. If the company that issues them has not done their homework, there could definitely be repercussions.

good point.

you can become a local banker using the AEhttps://nxtforum.org/asset-exchange-62/how-to-make-your-own-local-fiat-exchange-with-nxt-ae/

a great idea for local activists and Bitcoin enthusiast types.  Beware of legal restrictions.  IANAL.
