Semi-Permanent Message Type
« on: April 09, 2014, 06:58:45 am »

After some discussions about global and local aliases and permanent message/data storing in the chain, I would like to discuss a new message type with you.

The main idea is to store personal data like local aliases ("personal address book"), settings and other creative ideas brought up by client devs in the blockchain. Accessible only by the specific account (because it is encrypted), but globally available.

The current AM isn't capable of staying in the blockchain after the shrinking process. Therefore we need a new message type.

It could be semi-permanent in a way that you have to pay a renewal fee every period (for example per year), otherwise it get's deleted by the shrinking process. That way we could prevent chain bloating. Another idea would be to limit the amount of semi-permanent data per account. But I'm not sure about that.

Please discuss!

wouldnt a new AM with identical arbitrary data accomplish same thing?  unless you are talking about a renewal transaction being very small and the fee being less than the cost of the original AM, and the renewal is subject to expire, then it would be same thing as we have now.  thoughts>?

since we apparently are moving towards a fee structure based on transaction byte size, obviously AMs kind of sort of throw a wrench in there, since they are subject to being purged unlike NXT transactions.  I can only assume aliases will also follow the new fee/size model, but aliases are perm.  then we have AE-Issue transactions which are perm but currently cost 1000, so they are also a separate case.
