When I launch it. All I see is a spinning wheel. The question that pops up in me is; 'Why the hell does it take so long to launch it?'

But I think/know it is downloading the blockchain (20 minutes still spinning). Where is the status bar which showed how much there was left to download?
This would be handy for new users.

no, after initialization you should see login screen.

Send me PM so i can send you another version to debug this.

Hi wesleyh,

Thank you for the fantastic client. Any chance of open sourcing your client? The website says that the source code available but I can't find that.
Very appreciated that.

Regards,

Aizen

I agree. I'm a NXTer for 9 months now and even I don't know what a Public key means.

(image) Is a key still a key if there's nothing to unlock?

(Late reply, I know. Just saw it.)

It's still a key if you're a crypto geek!

If you're normal not, then it's an awful analogy. Here's what 'key' really means:

Your private key (sometimes called 'secret' key) is what you 'sign' transactions with, to say they're made by you. It can also be used to decrypt (or 'unlock') data that was encrypted by your public key. Like the name says, you need to keep it private, otherwise anyone else can pose as you, be in ur mailbox readin ur msgz, and all your NXT will belong to them.

Your public key is what other people (or rather, the software they run) use to verify that it's your signature on your transaction. For some encryption schemes, it's also directly used to encrypt messages. (Nxt uses it indirectly, to find a shared secret with your partner. That shared secret is used for the encryption and decryption.) Like the name says, you want it to be publicly known, so that anyone can verify your signatures and send you encrypted messages.

I'm writing a Nxt Wallet tutorial, have some questions:

1) On my comp running Win 7, the blockchain is stored in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Nxt Wallet\nxt\nxt_db. (My Nxt Wallet installation is on a different drive altogether.) Can the location be changed? Also, what are the locations for Mac and other Windows versions?

2) How does the installation process for Macs go? I've never used a Mac before, but I need to write instructions for not-necessarily-tech-savvy users. Doesn't have to spell everything out, I'm looking for instructions like

Quote
1) Download the latest version of Nxt Wallet from http://nxtra.org/nxt-wallet/.
2) Unzip it. (Select 'Open' from the right-click menu.) You should find nxt-wallet-win-setup.exe inside.
3) Double-click nxt-wallet-win-setup.exe to run it.
4) Follow the instructions in the setup program. If you're fine with the defaults, you can just keep clicking 'Next'.
By default, Nxt Wallet will be installed in C:\Program Files\Nxt Wallet.

which are my instructions for Windows.

Hi Wesley,

the new NXT wallet 2.0.0 keeps wanting to update to NRS 1.3.3 although that version is on my machine.

Even when I let NXT wallet download the software and NXT wallet restarts itself, it immediately pops up with the same message "new NRS available". In NXT wallet it wrongly detects the version of NRS as 1.3.1.

I would expect to find it in:

Nxt Wallet -> Contents -> Resources -> nxt -> nxt_db

There should be one or two files that end with .db

Looking at my own copy, though, I don't see it there...

There should just be a menu option in the top bar's drop-down to re-download the blockchain

I can not see it there, either  ::)

@MrV777: I am using NxtWallet 1.3.1 and there is no menu at the top bar to re-download the blockchain.

I have tried both ways before I posted here. I am wondering where the db files are stored :/

The db should be stored here:
/Users/******/Library/Application Support/Nxt Wallet/nxt_db/nxt

Also, here is the option in the menu:

Hope that helps

Having trouble with Mac version, I get this error message straight away when opening: "An error occurred, the server has quit. Please restart the application." and "Exception occurred" in the bottom log.

Had to revert back to browser-client (which works ok).. Anyone else having similar problem?

Sounds like it won't start because you already have NRS running. Use the Activity Monitor to kill Java, then try again.

I'm having trouble with win version... For the first time I start it, the window appears for a few seconds then suddenly it closes (like just disappers), after that there's no response when triing to re-open the wallet...

There's no error or anything...

What to do?

See PoofKnuckles reply above: Did you kill all java processes in taskmanager? (the console window tends to disappear quickly when there is still a hidden NRS/java-process running/"sitting" on the h2 db)

I checked, no java process was running...
