[Web Client] NXT Wallet with Asset Exchange
« on: March 23, 2014, 11:08:55 am »

Here's my Nxt client, still in development, if you find bugs or have suggestions, please reply to this thread.

http://nxtra.org/nxt-client/

I chose HTML/JS as the programming language because it has a few advantages:

- Source is just a click away (right click the page > view source)
- It's easy - lots of people know javascript and HTML - this means multiple people can work on this together.
- It's cross compatible and runs on any device.

A 1 click installer will be made available for linux/windows/mac as well.

For now it runs on my server, since it connects to the test network, there is no worry concerning passwords. Do not use your real account password.

I hope you appreciate this effort, if you do - my Nxt id is: 8189784314684138350

Here are some screenshots:

This is a bug that I reported before at nextcoin.org and you said:

Quote
Regarding the nr of confirmations being different on dashboard (homepage) and transaction history page, I suppose you looked at it during a 30 second timeframe? The homepage is updated every 30 seconds, the transaction page is updated when you click on it, so it's possible for it to be different for a short amount of time.

Well...this is not the case. The "dashboard" lags WAY behind when displaying transactions and confirmations. For example, as I type this, in the "Transactions" section of the client, my most recent Tx has 871 confirmations. However, in the "dashboard" it is still showing as unconfirmed.

The "recent blocks" section of the dashboard does appear to keep up to date. It's only the Transactions that are not updating.

When I quit out of the client and then logged back in, the "Transaction" section of the dashboard was updated to show 10+ confirmations.

Wesleyh, again, great looking software.

BUG?

Wesleyh

Are here some plans with transactions history, like "My transactions" in NRS? I see my account volume is changing, but I don't now from where testnxt are coming. Some are coming from forging, some came from selling an asset, but there is no one place to see all movements of my nxt.

The "Not Forging" option should be removed or disabled completely  if the user is not connected to localhost

Really like the Alias option when issuing assets, I tried several ways to break it and it won't let me issue an asset unless I own the specific alias.  I'm almost thinking that we should make it a requirement, that you enter an alias when issuing your asset.

i dont understand:  aliases are unique, asset names are not.  you cannot deny issue of an asset simply bcause the issuer doesnt own an alias that equals the asset name.  these 2 should be 100% decoupled

Not at all.  What I was saying is that you could require the asset issuer enter their alias when issuing, the alias can be whatever you want, it isn't required to be the same word as the asset.  So you could have BTC:Wesleyh, BTC:forkedchain, BTC:msin.  That way you can at least see a difference between non-unique asset names.

You can't do that - if you allow *anything to be unique* you are promoting *squatting* and *scamming*.

Nxt needs an abundance of scammers if it ever wants to be considered a real cryptocurrency.

Haha, yes, we could use a few good scammers.  On a serious note, if I issue a "BTC" asset, Wesleyh's client allows you to list your alias next to the name as well, which I think is a great option.  That way I can tell people, "Look for BTC asset with msin alias"  Making it a requirement is one thing (which I don't think we should), but making it an option is good.  Also, I don't think it promotes scamming, it just helps separate the 100 different "BTC" named assets.

CIYAM's point, I believe is that the MSIN alias can belong to anyone with the 1 NXT it costs to register, and the impostor MSIN could be out to rip people off.

Sure, I agree, but this isn't about Alias, it's about a reputation system.  Who's to say that I'm the real msin on this forum and not an imposter promoting my asset, who's to say msin on BTT is the real one.  You can go round and round.  We already have non-unique assets, which I think is great, but it's nice to have the option to attach an alias name to the asset. The reputation of an asset shouldn't be something established from an external source, but if CIYAM from BTT told me he has an asset BTC:CIYAM, then at least I know that's him.

A reputation system *doesn't need unique readable names* - look at GPG and understand that what identifies you is *not* your email address but actually your public key (unreadable 2-4K of binary data).

We have useful things like "hashes" to be able to get a relatively small "unique" (but albeit still *unfriendly*) identity (fingerprint) and then finally you add a "label" to that identity once you have confirmed it.

It isn't trivial - but then neither is "opening a bank account" and oddly enough you get an "account number" rather than an *alias* when you do that to.

I understand it is not really for reputation but perhaps a bit more like "escrow" with the escrow being asked to make a "judgement" (clearly judgements that go *against* you won't help your reputation though).

In general the idea of a WoT is to try and determine a level of confidence in someone you don't know and who hasn't been badly judged before. Unfortunately they are prone to those who are good at manipulation (pirateat40 being a very good example of that).

A potential bug?

Recent transactions in the front page doesn't appear to update the confirmation count automatically. It was showing only one confirmation for an incoming transaction sent over 10 hours ago, while the Transactions tab showed correct amount of confirmations. Navigating away and back wouldn't fix it, refresh of the page did.

I'm using latest stable Chrome, Nxt 0.8.11 and http://nxtra.org/nxt-client/dev.zip client.

You are using an old version, you should use the one from bitbucket;

I can get it zipped also if you want.

I'll check this tomorrow, I have made some big changes in the client that are not yet uploaded to nxtra.org so this may already be fixed. Will look into it.

Yes, the -4 balance was a bug, it's already fixed but I haven't uploaded the new version yet. I haven't yet checked the assets, but anyone can send assets to any account, including genesis.

Wesleyh,

First I want to say that you have done a great job with the web client.  It looks great!!

I was wondering what your thoughts were on implementing something like this to help secure first time users' wallets:
https://nxtforum.org/nxt-improvement-proposals/nxt-first-outgoing-transaction/

Thanks and great job again!

Wesleyh

Are here some plans with transactions history, like "My transactions" in NRS? I see my account volume is changing, but I don't now from where testnxt are coming. Some are coming from forging, some came from selling an asset, but there is no one place to see all movements of my nxt.

This is bad design by the NRS core. As JL said it would have been better if everything was a transaction, but it isn't. Anyway, in new version (not yet uploaded) you can see forged blocks too. Trade history will come later. But all of this is not in the same page. At least not until the API is redesigned to improve performance because doing all of these at once would probably be pretty slow.

The "Not Forging" option should be removed or disabled completely  if the user is not connected to localhost

Forging does not start automatically, and if the user does want to start it, a distinctive message states that the password will be sent to the server.

Wesleyh,

First I want to say that you have done a great job with the web client.  It looks great!!

I was wondering what your thoughts were on implementing something like this to help secure first time users' wallets:
https://nxtforum.org/nxt-improvement-proposals/nxt-first-outgoing-transaction/

Thanks and great job again!

Good idea, but how would this work in practice? Do I just send them to my centralized faucet? Just a link on the dashboard when someone with a new account logs in telling them to get some nxt from the faucet?

Have the user register an Alias, send an AM, or have them send 1Nxt to themselves.

Make it a button saying "Secure this Wallet now" with a short description. Only shows up if no public key exists.

Can't add a new contact as of today on http://nxtra.org/nxt-client/

"Your browser does not support database access, without which contacts cannot be created."

I don't remember changing any settings, and it worked before... I am on Chrome 33.0.1
How to unblock it?

Thx!

Should be fixed now.

It needs to be adapted by all clients to replace the old format. For that to happen, Jean Luk needs to implement it too on his side. The Java version is already available, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

That message notification will be done for sure.

Now I thought about apps, I kind of like the idea. For example, we could have an app for James' multigateway (since I'm not sure it should be installed by default - it's not part of the core). The "app", once installed, can add a link to the sidebar menu and when clicked will show it's contents in a sandboxed iframe.

Via the use of messaging the iframe will be able to communicate with the Nxt wallet itself, so as to check if a specific message or transaction is received, etc. The iframe will also be able to send a message to do certain things like opening the "Send Nxt" dialog with a specific recipient pre-filled.

Just an idea..

lcharles123 - testnet is a separated blockchain, run by different nodes than the nodes running the main Nxt network/blockchain, used for test purposes only. The NXT coins used in testnet are called testNXT and cannot be sent to and from the main Nxt blockchain.

The problem with using your real account passphrase in testnet is that there's certain security risks. Potentially, an attacker might be able to copy a transaction broadcasted in the testnet and try to broadcast it in the main net. Transactions follow the same format and do not specify in themselves which blockchain do they belong to, so in theory it is possible that someone in testnet managed for instance to receive a transaction from the same account number you use in the main Nxt network and then replay it outside with real NXT.

To avoid any concerns and also to avoid confusions, you should create a brand new account if you are to operate in testnet.

Please test everything on http://nxtra.org/nxt-client/

It now uses NQT for everything including AE.

AE is a bit different as you will see, when you have an asset with 8 numbers after the comma, you will not be able to enter an amount < 1NXT (so no fractions). If you have an asset with 6 numbers after comma, you will be able to have 2 numbers after comma for NXT price, etc.. This is the way it is.

Also account leasing is available, click on more info under account balance to set that up.

And account info (name/description) can be set via the link above the account ID.

Be sure to do a hard refresh of the page so that nothing is returned from cache, which could result in errors.

For info everyone,

Clients that aren't ready for the move to nxtQaunts will need to be removed from all Nxt related website. I think your client is ok Wesley  ;)

Hi wesleyh,

I am testing your UI in the new NSR realease. It looks great!!

Some suggestions:
-It doesnt have an icon
-I miss the count down of estimated time to forge one block
-When creating a new account you dont give the possibility to modify the automatically generated pass-phrase or for the user to create his/her own
-Maybe a section in dashboard or in news section with all the links to sites related to Nxt?

This is bad ideas, as most users will make it worse (weaker) if they are able to modify password.

The client lets you create your own password. It says, "Want to choose your own secret phrase? Click here." under the password generated box

1.
It would be great to add another action when I click on an accountnumber. When I click on an accountnumber, there is tab "Actions", can you put the action "Lease your balance to this account" there?

2.
In the Asset Exchange a user needs to click on the green or red icon with the - inside. It would be more natural to put a + in there. And that it changes in - when it pulls down.

3.
When I need to fill in my passphrase somewhere in the client (not on the first page), I believe it would be nice to make a option to remind the passphrase for that session (such as on the loginpage). Especially when I want to go buy and sell a lot of assets, I need to fill in my passphrase again and again.

4.
I don't like the "leased soon" on top of the image. Maybe get rid of the suitecase-icon?

5.
There are a lot of assets, a search bar directly above the assets-collum would be nice (instant search).

This is already implemented on the login screen, you can choose to let the client remember your password for the session.

Asset search will be in the next release.

IMO it should be "every asset which contains the following sequence of characters anywhere in its asset id." I know that seems obvious but its amazing how many services somehow get such a simple thing wrong ::)

No, why should it search for anywhere in it's asset id?

It works as follows:

Input: 12345

It checks to see if an asset id exists with that id, or an asset with an account with that id, or if there's an asset with that string in the title.

Especially when I want to go buy and sell a lot of assets, I need to fill in my passphrase again and again.

This is already implemented on the login screen, you can choose to let the client remember your password for the session.
I know, you misunderstood my question. When I forget or didn't want to remember my passphrase at start, I want to remember it later without loging in again. Maybe a checkbox to remember everywhere I need to fill in the passphrase?

I'm not gonna put an extra checkbox on every dialog, this leads to cluttered interface. Perhaps some kind of advanced dialog toggle in the future.

It checks to see if an asset id exists with that id, or an asset with an account with that id, or if there's an asset with that string in the title.

because that's the way i search for things. when a search engine or search algo works differently its extremely frustrating. thats all. its just natural. its just what feels right. if the name of a file is "the secret world of arrietty" i want to be able to search "secret world of" and get my result. you are free to do something else of course. its your software you are the coder. im just telling you what i, the consumer, expect.

Yes, that's the way I do it for the asset title search (partial matches), but not for asset id and account id. Those you would copy and paste mostly anyways right? Unless you can show me people want this behavior, I won't add it at this time.

yes i agree that things which it is reasonable to expect that peopel will be using copy and paste for require exact match. it seems we simply had a small miscommunication. :)

I won't recommend this. There is no setup.exe on linux.  What is "2. Start Button Programs"

Also, I am not sure how fast they will update  hot/direct link to nxt-wallet-win-setup-1.1.exe

For most users, this link is fine http://nxtra.org/nxt-wallet/

The web client is builtin in NRS and latest version will always be at https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/overview

Desktop client would be http://nxtra.org/nxt-wallet/

Hasn't wesleys web client been part of official releases for quite some time already?

I suppose people confuse web client with local client in web browser.

Correct. I'm talking about checking my account on iOS Safari when I'm mobile, not through my desktop browser/localhost.

There is a final version?
Or I can use a real password and transactions usually under my trust in you and in your application?

Is this still usable or should it be unstickied?

Don't want people getting frustrated by none working clients.
