Haha, yes, we could use a few good scammers.  On a serious note, if I issue a "BTC" asset, Wesleyh's client allows you to list your alias next to the name as well, which I think is a great option.  That way I can tell people, "Look for BTC asset with msin alias"  Making it a requirement is one thing (which I don't think we should), but making it an option is good.  Also, I don't think it promotes scamming, it just helps separate the 100 different "BTC" named assets.

CIYAM's point, I believe is that the MSIN alias can belong to anyone with the 1 NXT it costs to register, and the impostor MSIN could be out to rip people off.

Sure, I agree, but this isn't about Alias, it's about a reputation system.  Who's to say that I'm the real msin on this forum and not an imposter promoting my asset, who's to say msin on BTT is the real one.  You can go round and round.  We already have non-unique assets, which I think is great, but it's nice to have the option to attach an alias name to the asset. The reputation of an asset shouldn't be something established from an external source, but if CIYAM from BTT told me he has an asset BTC:CIYAM, then at least I know that's him.

A reputation system *doesn't need unique readable names* - look at GPG and understand that what identifies you is *not* your email address but actually your public key (unreadable 2-4K of binary data).

We have useful things like "hashes" to be able to get a relatively small "unique" (but albeit still *unfriendly*) identity (fingerprint) and then finally you add a "label" to that identity once you have confirmed it.

It isn't trivial - but then neither is "opening a bank account" and oddly enough you get an "account number" rather than an *alias* when you do that to.

Yeah, definitely good points, did you see judgement system thread?  https://nxtforum.org/judgement-system/what-is-judgement-system/?topicseen

I understand it is not really for reputation but perhaps a bit more like "escrow" with the escrow being asked to make a "judgement" (clearly judgements that go *against* you won't help your reputation though).

In general the idea of a WoT is to try and determine a level of confidence in someone you don't know and who hasn't been badly judged before. Unfortunately they are prone to those who are good at manipulation (pirateat40 being a very good example of that).

A potential bug?

Recent transactions in the front page doesn't appear to update the confirmation count automatically. It was showing only one confirmation for an incoming transaction sent over 10 hours ago, while the Transactions tab showed correct amount of confirmations. Navigating away and back wouldn't fix it, refresh of the page did.

I'm using latest stable Chrome, Nxt 0.8.11 and http://nxtra.org/nxt-client/dev.zip client.

Can't add a new contact as of today on http://nxtra.org/nxt-client/

"Your browser does not support database access, without which contacts cannot be created."

I don't remember changing any settings, and it worked before... I am on Chrome 33.0.1
How to unblock it?

Thx!

You are using an old version, you should use the one from bitbucket;

https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/commits/branch/feature%2Fwesley

I can get it zipped also if you want.

When will it go live?

Thanks!

It'll go live whenever JL/CFB decides.

This is a bug that I reported before at nextcoin.org and you said:

Quote
Regarding the nr of confirmations being different on dashboard (homepage) and transaction history page, I suppose you looked at it during a 30 second timeframe? The homepage is updated every 30 seconds, the transaction page is updated when you click on it, so it's possible for it to be different for a short amount of time.

Well...this is not the case. The "dashboard" lags WAY behind when displaying transactions and confirmations. For example, as I type this, in the "Transactions" section of the client, my most recent Tx has 871 confirmations. However, in the "dashboard" it is still showing as unconfirmed.

The "recent blocks" section of the dashboard does appear to keep up to date. It's only the Transactions that are not updating.

When I quit out of the client and then logged back in, the "Transaction" section of the dashboard was updated to show 10+ confirmations.

I'll check this tomorrow, I have made some big changes in the client that are not yet uploaded to nxtra.org so this may already be fixed. Will look into it.

Wesleyh, again, great looking software.

Question: Logging in as Genesis account (1739068987193023818) on http://nxtra.org/nxt-client/ shows a balance of -4 NXT and owns 2 assets.
BUG?

(Sorry if this was answered already, didn't find anything)

Yes, the -4 balance was a bug, it's already fixed but I haven't uploaded the new version yet. I haven't yet checked the assets, but anyone can send assets to any account, including genesis.

Wesleyh,

First I want to say that you have done a great job with the web client.  It looks great!!

I was wondering what your thoughts were on implementing something like this to help secure first time users' wallets:
https://nxtforum.org/nxt-improvement-proposals/nxt-first-outgoing-transaction/

Thanks and great job again!

Wesleyh

Are here some plans with transactions history, like "My transactions" in NRS? I see my account volume is changing, but I don't now from where testnxt are coming. Some are coming from forging, some came from selling an asset, but there is no one place to see all movements of my nxt.

This is bad design by the NRS core. As JL said it would have been better if everything was a transaction, but it isn't. Anyway, in new version (not yet uploaded) you can see forged blocks too. Trade history will come later. But all of this is not in the same page. At least not until the API is redesigned to improve performance because doing all of these at once would probably be pretty slow.

The "Not Forging" option should be removed or disabled completely  if the user is not connected to localhost

Forging does not start automatically, and if the user does want to start it, a distinctive message states that the password will be sent to the server.

Good idea, but how would this work in practice? Do I just send them to my centralized faucet? Just a link on the dashboard when someone with a new account logs in telling them to get some nxt from the faucet?

Have the user register an Alias, send an AM, or have them send 1Nxt to themselves.

Make it a button saying "Secure this Wallet now" with a short description. Only shows up if no public key exists.
