The lack of a simple Mac app is a problem, so I took the liberty of updating the old Nxt Wallet app to use the latest version of NXT. You can grab it here:

UPDATE:

NEW Mac Nxt Wallet with NRS 1.7.5. (not based on any code from the original Nxt Wallet).

This should be everything you need. It will start the blockchain download after start-up. Note: you will not see anything in the window for about 10 seconds after launch. I am working on that.
